VTTAE itinerary - GRAVEL

A 34 km route from Les Vans
There are three possible options on this route, which is stage 6 of the Grande Traversée de l'Ardèche - and therefore not a loop! :
  • a departure from Les Vans to follow the full route to Salavas.
From Les Vans, cycle to the Bois de Païolive, a magical wood, a rocky maze of natural sculptures with evocative names such as bear, lion and elephant. A moment's respite as you cross the Jalès plain to the Font Vive spring, a sumptuous Vaucluse resurgence. This part of the GTA MTB stage then becomes more athletic as you reach the Col de la Cize and enjoy some superb, well-deserved views before plunging over Salavas to Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, the gateway to the Ardèche gorges.
  • a departure from the Auberge, in the direction of Les Vans, for a gentle stroll across the Jalès plain and through the mythical Bois de Païolive.
  • or a more sporty version, starting from the Auberge, heading for Vallon Pont d'Arc, with an easy first section across the Jalès plain, then via the Font Vive spring, before climbing to the Col de la Cize and finally reaching Salavas.

With this itinerary, you can also :
  • take advantage of the typical market in Les Vans on Saturday mornings or the one in
    Berrias-et-Casteljau, Monday evenings in summer
  • put your feet in the river, on the Maisonneuve side
  • near "Comps", take a short diversions across the D111 to visit and discover the wines of Château de la Selve
